This year’s summer academy took place from September 20, 2026, to October 2, 2026, in the Sarntal Valley in South Tyrol. In collaboration with the Chair of Media Technology at the TU of Munich and the Institute for Signal Processing and Systems Theory at the University of Stuttgart, the LMS offered a course on “Deep and Generative Processing and Coding of Visual Data.”

Through presentations by the participants, and thanks in particular to their high level of motivation and expertise, the event fostered a highly informative and interactive exchange. Topics covered ranged from the fundamentals of deep learning in image and video signal processing to advanced applications and concepts. To apply the concepts they had learned, participants worked in small groups to apply and compare various algorithms in the fields of image compression, style transfer, super-resolution, and high dynamic range (HDR) recovery to their own image and video data, which they had captured during hikes.

In addition to the academic program, leisure activities are also an integral part of the summer academy. With hikes, excellent food, evening events, and a trip to Bolzano, participants’ emotional well-being was certainly not neglected.
