Deep Learning in Image and Video Processing

Prof. Dr.-Ing. André Kaup Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eckehard Steinbach Technische Universität München
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bin Yang (Guestlecturer) Universität Stuttgart

Welcome to an exciting exploration of deep learning applied to image and video processing! Organized through the collaboration of FAU, TUM and the University of Stuttgart, this course offers a dynamic journey into the cutting-edge world of deep learning methodologies.

Deep learning techniques have been making significant strides in signal processing, captivating the interest of industry professionals and scientific enthusiasts alike. In the realm of image and video processing, these methods have demonstrated remarkable advancements, surpassing traditional algorithms and unlocking new possibilities previously considered unattainable.

The potential applications are vast and diverse – from creative endeavors like transforming black-and-white videos into vibrant masterpieces, generating personalized images and videos, to industrial applications such as image compression, super-resolution, object detection for surveillance, and more. Deep learning is reshaping these fields with its profound impact.

This comprehensive course provides an in-depth overview of classical image and video processing algorithms, a foundational understanding of deep learning principles, and a detailed exploration of practical applications. The course is structured into two parts. First, each participant will deliver a presentation on a selected topic within the realm of image and video processing. In the second part, students will collaborate on the development of an AI-driven robot, providing hands-on experience in implementing both classical and deep-learning-based image and video processing algorithms.

Join us at the prestigious Ferienakademie 2024 (22.09.2024 – 04.10.2024) located in the picturesque Sarntal Alps of South Tirol. The course is designed for higher Bachelor-level and Master-level students, and requires experience in programming (ideally in Python) due to its extensive coding component.
Embark on this transformative journey with us as we unravel the mysteries of deep learning in image and video processing, shaping the future of technology together.

If you are interested, please apply by May 1, 2024 via the website of the Ferienakademie. We look forward to welcoming you to this course!
